Notre Dame Broadcasting Corp. radio technician shot dead on his way to work in Sultan Kudarat.

SULTAN KUDARAT, Maguindanao del Norte — Grief and outrage gripped the Mindanao media community after a veteran radio technician was shot and killed by unidentified assailants in Barangay Limbo on Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2026. The victim, identified as 56-year-old Dennis Daborbor Pido, was a highly respected, long-time technical engineer for the Catholic-owned Notre Dame Broadcasting Corporation (NDBC). He was a resident of Sinsuat Avenue in nearby Cotabato City.

According to the initial report from the Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police Station, the ambush transpired between 3:40 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. along a busy stretch of the Cotabato–Davao National Highway. Pido was reportedly riding his motorcycle, traveling from his residence toward the radio station for his scheduled afternoon shift, when armed men blocked his path and opened fire at close range. The suspects immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction after the shooting.

First responders and emergency personnel rushed to the scene, but Pido succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to vital parts of his body and was pronounced dead. Investigators recovered several spent bullet casings from the crime scene, which are currently undergoing ballistic examination. Local police have already deployed tracker teams to establish the suspects’ escape route and review available closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage along the highway.

The management and staff of NDBC, where Pido had faithfully served behind the scenes for over three decades, expressed deep devastation over the tragic loss of their colleague. In a statement, the broadcasting network condemned the senseless act of violence and remembered Pido as a quiet, dedicated, and hardworking family man who spent his life ensuring the community remained informed. Fellow journalists and media advocacy groups have joined the call for a swift and impartial investigation into the killing.

As of Wednesday morning, authorities are looking into all possible angles to establish the exact motive behind the fatal attack, including personal grudges or work-related conflicts. Sultan Kudarat police have urged anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage from the area during the time of the incident to step forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
